You guys loved “Blister in the Sun” so much, you probably never stopped to consider the subject matter of the Violent Femmes’ most popular song, churning up angst and oily-skinned sexual frustrations since 1983. The Femmes retain cult popularity 20-plus years later as a punk landmark and general go-to band for undirected anger. They’ve spent the last few years doing solo work or releasing stuff recorded long ago, back when Gordon Gano’s voice came out like a high-energy trumpet blown through the nose. How times have changed, friends! Now it’s more a high-energy coronet. Nevertheless, the Violent Femmes soldier on, coming to Shockoe Bottom Saturday, Aug. 12, for Y101’s TikiPalooza with Richmond’s own Four Stories, Foundation Band, Conshafter and Gill, 3:30-10 p.m. on 18th Street. Tickets are $12-$17. 330-5700. S
