Originally from Ashland, and now based in Chapel Hill, N.C., Skylar Gudasz and the Ugly Girls bring together folk harmonies reminiscent of a sleepy summer evenings on the porch. The group’s debut release, “Two Headed Monster,” has earned plenty of acclaim from critics, who compare the music to that of current artists Wye Oak and the classic styles of artists such as Joni Mitchell. Gudasz and company have played in Richmond many times in the past few years, including the Camel and at Gallery5’s beer tasting and art exhibit, AugustFest. This time around, Skylar Gudasz and the Ugly Girls are back to their stomping grounds, performing with Birds and Arrows at Ashland Coffee and Tea on Thursday, Feb. 9, at 8 p.m. $10-$15. 798-1702.
