Food news, events and whispers.

FOOD FOR GOOD: Next week, dining out gets cheaper with fixed-price meals at 19 of Richmond’s best restaurants, all to support the Central Virginia Food Bank. Restaurant Week runs Monday, Oct. 24, through Sunday, Oct. 30. For $20.05 per person, diners get a three-course meal — salad or appetizer, entrée and dessert. The food bank gets $2.05 from each sale. Participating restaurants include: Acacia, Amici Ristorante, Bacchus, Cabo’s Corner Bistro, Café Lafayette, Can Can Brasserie, Comfort, Franco’s Ristorante, Grafiti Grille, Hondo’s at Innsbrook, Julep’s New Southern Cuisine, La Grotta, Millie’s, Sam Miller’s, Six Burner, Stella’s Restaurant, TJ’s in the Jefferson, The Track and Zeus Gallery Café.

TASTE OF SAKS: Adding to the glow of goodwill this month, nine local chefs are bringing samples of their specialties to Saks Fifth Avenue’s Stony Point store for a cancer research benefit. Dale Reitzer, Graham Haddock, David Shannon, Jay McManus, John Brand, Paul Elbling, Walter Bundy, Kevin Roberts and Shelley Tennant will show off their foodstuffs while The Embers perform, martinis and bellinis are served, and the men’s department becomes a blackjack room. The store will be closed to the public during this ticketed event, set for Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $75, benefiting the VCU Massey Cancer Center. Call 828-1451 for details.

KRAUT ALERT: For 14 years, The Ironhorse Restaurant in Ashland has served up German fare for its month-long Oktoberfest celebration. This year, look for Kartoffelpuffer — potato cake with bacon, pastrami-cured salmon and sour cream — and Schnitzel … la Holstein — a veal cutlet topped with fried egg, caviar and anchovies, served with braised cabbage and German potato salad. Owner Mimi Siff says the seasonal menu, best augmented with imported brew, runs through Nov. 5. — Deveron Timberlake
