My Crusty Valentine

If you’re just now realizing that the path to your sweetheart’s brain is through the ears and stomach, then your last-minute Valentine’s solution might be a pizza delivered with music by some guys who know their chops.

Crusty’s Pizza, named for co-owner Russ Duerr’s alter ego in clown-face, is offering a dinner-and-music deal. It comes with special delivery by Roger Carroll of Chez Roue and Gordon Jones of the Oregon Hill Funk All-Stars performing classic love songs. They’re playing through Friday and can personalize the experience to fit the romance factor.

Crusty’s is, for now, a takeout and delivery business at 1319-B W. Main St., in the Lost Sock Laundromat, where Sven Shine Inn used to be. Once licensing is in place, the newly cleaned-up space will return to a dine-in spot as well, serving pizza, lasagna, subs and chili.

Sean Jones and David Berron are also partners in the business, which names its pizzas after musicians such as the Grateful Dead (veggie with extra mushrooms, man) and Led Zeppelin (all meat). 475-7272.

Sven Shines Elsewhere

Meanwhile, Sven Lammers returns to the pizza world with Rocco’s Pizza, a takeout and delivery business at an Exxon station at 10400 Ridgefield Parkway. He’s back from a stint cooking at Spago — Las Vegas and is selling pizzas, including his favorite — a portobello, yellow and orange pepper, and homemade sausage combo — nightly with delivery in the West End. 422-9679.

Tapas Takeover

Now that Bank is up and running downtown, owner Mo Roman is stretching his grasp into the Fan, where he’s opening a new tapas place in the former Wooden Spoon restaurant on Lombardy. It will be called Si, and Roman promises “an un-Fan atmosphere that’s modern and fun, a neighborhood jewel.” He has an experienced team at work refreshing the building and designing a menu with Bank chef Matt Turner. Si will open when it’s ready this spring.

Open-and-Shut Cases

Wired, the coffee shop on Robinson Street, has closed, a few months after Starbucks opened nearby. Rio Grande, a Mexican chain eatery at Stony Point Fashion Park, closed after a year of rumors that it wasn’t hitting its margins.

Edible Garden on River Road in Goochland County celebrates its two-year anniversary this week, serving healthy foods from local growers and building a reputation for fresh, flavorful cuisine. Franco’s Ristorante celebrates its 20th anniversary with weekend specials at $20 all month. The West End establishment has been a consistent critics’ favorite for its satisfying and creative fare. S
