What to Do and Where to Eat for Food Lovers
Hops and horticulture: The beautiful Italian Garden at Maymont, scene of many a Richmond wedding, will play host Sept. 10 to a five-course beer dinner featuring local heavy hitters. The Roosevelt and Southbound’s Lee Gregory, Joe Sparatta of Heritage and Southbound and Acacia Mid-Town’s Dale Reitzer are preparing a menu to pair with five Hardywood Park Craft Brewery beers. Comfortable with change: The venerable Comfort, voted your favorite spot for Southern food in our 2017 Best of Richmond, is celebrating 15 years in September. With that milestone comes the restaurant’s first-ever menu change. Trails and tipp-ulations: Is there anything more Richmond than running and drinking? You’ll have a chance to do both with the third annual Trails and Ales presented by Capital Ale House on September 16. The athletics portion of the event features 5-kilometer and 8-mile courses on the Buttermilk and North Bank trails portion of the James River Park System, including the popular new T. Tyler Potterfield Memorial Bridge. The brew-focused part of the event is a craft beer festival in Manchester, featuring offerings from Buskey Cider and Stone Brewing. It’s Farmers’ Market Week in Virginia, which means it’s the perfect time to consider buying more of your produce directly from the source. An economic study completed by the University of Virginia this year found that agriculture accounts for nearly $70 billion and more than 330,000 jobs in Virginia alone.
