Restaurant proliferation, uncanny and seemingly unstoppable, continues with more openings this week.
Where the once-loved Rio Grande and its intricate wall mural used to be, Little Mexico is soon to open a decidedly spiffier business. Its corner location at Harvie and Cary streets offers wide window views, cushy booths and the usual Mexican dishes and combo platters served from a bright stainless-steel kitchen. It’s a far cry from the old place with its dark, dive-y interior and underground attitude; the new spot has corporate-style efficiency thanks to its sibling relationship with the local Mexico chain. In the West End, Fantasy Island Café and Grille takes over where Manila Manila used to be at 9047 W. Broad St. The 86-seat, nonsmoking restaurant will serve Caribbean-inspired fare for lunch and dinner daily except Sundays. 270-4500.
Under the Richmond Sun
Winemaker Paolo De Marchi, owner of Isolet e Olena estate in Tuscany, comes to Richmond next week for a special event at Enoteca Sogno. It’s the local wine bar’s first wine dinner, and owner Gary York says the bottles to be poured are prestigious and unusually good. He’ll serve a four-course authentic Tuscan meal to complement the wines. Tariff is $75 per person, including tax, and reservations are required. Seating is Thursday, Nov. 29, at 7:30 p.m. 2043 W.
