Potato Pizza
When the neighborhood is saturated with pizza options, it pays to do things differently. So the guys at Belmont Pizzeria, which opened last week, are introducing potato pizza — sliced spuds quick-fried and layered over garlic-herb butter, olive oil and mozzarella. They say it's flying out of their double-stack pizza ovens.
First-time owners Stephen Lackey, Victor Guevara and Sal Nuara say they've done their research in setting up the take-away business at 602 N. Belmont Ave. in the former Vapors salon. They've priced slices and pies at a bit under average ($5.50 for a personal cheese pizza, $2.50 per slice), and use an old Sicilian recipe with scratch-made dough and fresh ingredients.
They also sell pasta, salads, appetizers and desserts, and a range of from-the-oven standards such as stromboli, calzone and hot subs; they deliver the goods with a $12 minimum order. Open daily. 888-9861.

Burger mania: Over at Dot's Back Inn, chef-owner Jimmy Tsamouras says customers crave burgers more than anything else these days, so he's giving them 15 new options with 27 different ingredients. The Ultimate has cheddar, grilled onions, mushrooms, bacon and jalapenos, clocking in at $8.75. Other new dishes include a vegetarian falafel gyro, dinner salads and 10 sandwiches, and an expanded kids' menu. 4030 MacArthur Ave. 266-3167. dotsback.com.
