Where to go. What to hear.

ATP, Baroness and RPG at Alley Katz

Richmond rock loves it some acronyms, apparently. Alabama Thunder Pussy graces Alley Katz with its feverish guitar hijinks July 28, joined by returning favorite Baroness and RPG’s big cloud of sound. Richmond’s ATP and RPG are both home again, fresh off of touring, so they should be settling in nicely. The show starts at 10 p.m. $5. 643-2816.

Hilary Duff in Concert!

Even if you have no desire to keep up with the latest flavors blondeing out of the relentless pop tart machine, the concert at Richmond Coliseum July 27 still might serve as a cultural barometer. Hilary Duff has blonded herself into a full-fledged brand across the board, from her television days as Lizzie McGuire to her film days as Lizzie McGuire, while testing her pipes out on the TV soundtrack. Which leads to her “Metamorphosis,” the debut album that has placed her before screaming preteens nationwide. Take yourself, take a daughter, niece or even that young nephew who “really gets” Liza Minnelli; take them and dip a toe into the cultural waters. Remember: This is the audience that will someday blonde the president. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $29.50-$49.50, available at 262-8100 or www.ticketmaster.com.

Mood Music at Alley Katz

Planar, A Northern Chorus, Sianspheric and our own Tulsa Drone: Do the math, carry the lonely, lonely one and you have an evening of eloquent, atmospheric, often moody rock with violent hints of guitar and synth. The show is July 30, 10 p.m.-2 a.m. $5. 643-2816.

And the Band Name of the Week Is …

Hootie and the Blowfish. Twelve years and four albums later, this band name still confounds the masses with its mix of cuteness and nonsense. They’re touring in support of their recent best-of album and upcoming fifth release, “Looking for Lucky.” Still and all, some of the tunes are pretty catchy. Hear them in rotation at a variety of retail chains, businesses and elevators. See them live at Innsbrook After Hours, July 27 at 6 p.m. Tickets are $10-$35. Ticket sales end July 27 at noon. Call 794-6700 or visit www.innsbrookafterhours.com.
