WRIR Anniversary Concert at the Renaissance
Despite Clear Channel’s prayers, WRIR 97.3, Richmond’s indie radio station, celebrates its first birthday Feb. 3, 7 p.m.-midnight, as part of the First Fridays Artwalk, there in the Renaissance (that pretty building at 107 W. Broad St. you’ve never noticed before). If you can’t find it, listen for music from Special Ed and the Shortbus Bluegrass Band, VCR, The Cheap Seats and Hotel X. $5 donation. 649-9737.
The Assrockers at Legend Brewing Company
Look, I’m not going to explain to you why this is a good idea. But they live up to the name. Feb. 4 at 10 p.m. $5. 232-3446.
Brothers Past at Alley Katz
Though electronic prog-rock sounds like something surgical and quite painful, Brothers Past have been gathering raves from New York Press and Philadelphia City Paper and comparisons to Pink Floyd, Radiohead and Amon Tobin. Big shoes for a surgical procedure to live up to, but with a new album, “This Feeling’s Called Goodbye,” they want you to sit back and relax. They play Alley Katz Feb. 3, 9 p.m.-2 a.m. $7-$10.
