Where to go. What to hear.

Miguelito at the Singleton Center

Flamenco guitarist Michael “Miguelito” Perez sits right in the middle of the D.C. flamenco scene, keeping a Web site (www.dcflamenco.com), a blog and a bunch of dancers whirling around him pretty much all the time. So Sunday, Jan. 28, at 4 p.m. he’s exporting the culture of flamenco from Spain by way of Washington, with dancers and a singer. Miguelito’s high-speed acoustic guitar, along with the stomp and clap of the dancers, creates one big instrument that’s very pretty to watch, even if you are intimidated by the intensity of the dancers. $10. 828-6776.

The Influence at Lakeside TavernVirginia Beach is pretty close to Charlottesville, so it’s going to be natural that The Influence draws comparisons to Dave Matthews and his crew. But maybe that’s because it has a layered rock sound that seems developed beyond its years, something that comes out of bars but fits arenas pretty well. Plus there are the Nick Drake vocals that, combined with the delicate guitar work, lead directly to population growth. The Influence plays Saturday, Jan. 27, at 9 p.m. Free. 264-3288.

The Richmond Symphony at a Place T hat Sells Beer

Imagine the joys of raising a lighter to Mozart’s first movement of “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik” or draining a long-neck, grabbing your fraternity brother around the neck and drunkenly humming along to Rachmaninoff’s “Vocalise.” Because, you see, the Richmond Symphony wants chants of “Skynyrd” to be replaced with “Gabrieli” and consequently presents Double Take! at Canal Club Thursday, Jan. 25, at 7 p.m. $10. It’s taking works by those composers and running them twice, two variations on those tunes you listened to in the back of the pickup with your first love. But, hey, if the beer-chant crowd doesn’t work for you, Double Take! is also coming to the Science Museum of Virginia Sunday, Jan. 28, at 5 p.m. $17. 788-1212. S
