Where to go. What to hear.

DJ Williams Projekt at Café Diem

Yet again, we remind you: DJ Williams Projekt isn’t really a DJ’s name. And no, don’t expect to hear the latest break beats pouncing from the speakers when these guys take the stage. With their energetic blend of soul, funk and R&B, the DJ Williams Projekt entertains crowds weekly at Café Diem. Just don’t question the band about the intentional misspelling of their name. Why? Just becuz. Tuesday, Oct. 3, 9 p.m. Free. 353-2500.

Pat O’Brien at Sharky’s

Good evening and welcome to “The Insider”! Oh, wait a minute. So sorry, wrong Pat O’Brien. Don’t worry, though. If you’re in the mood for masterfully performed covers and originals, and not a nasally entertainment journalist, this is the Pat O’Brien you want. He’s playing weekly at Sharky’s Bar & Billiard, Thursday, Sept. 28, 9:30 p.m. Free. 273-1888.

Fighting Gravity at Innsbrook

If you’re like most Americans, you’re probably suffering from a severe lack of trumpets and trombones in your musical diet. If you fit the bill, fear not: Fighting Gravity has been sent to ease all your musical woes. The horn-heavy ska band plays a CD release show with the Pat McGee band at Innsbrook After Hours Friday, Sept. 29, 6 p.m. $10-$15. 794-6700.

Pensive at Alley Katz

A little bit of angst never hurt anyone, at least when music’s involved. Don’t believe me? Ask the members of Pensive, A Suffocating Signal, The Half Jeffersons or Self Against City. They’re all playing at Alley Katz Wednesday, so they’ll back me up. OK, we could be wrong about this. We probably are. … We’ll never get this right. Sept. 27, 6-10 p.m. $6. 643-2816. S
