Rusted Root at the Canal Club
The churning rhythmic rock o’ cultures that Rusted Root has made its own comes to Richmond Nov. 2 at 8 p.m. The band adds to its percussion-driven sound the acoustical promise of those new-fangled computers. Frontman Michael Glabicki still shares singing duties with Jenn Wertz and Liz Berlin, though, so the sound is still sensual without being synthetic. $20.50-$22.50. 643-2582.

Lest you think art these days is all paintings and pottery, Gallery5 has more to offer Nov. 4. The Patchwork Collective and Special Ed and the Shortbus tease the art-loving peoples of this town starting at 7 p.m., followed by the ambient pop of Adah, Prabir Mehta of the Rachel Nevadas, and from Chapel Hill and points stellar, the space-loving, instrument-inventing antics of Eyes to Space, and The Physics of Meaning, featuring members of The Polyphonic Spree. $5 after 10 p.m. 644-0005.
Documentaries a la Gourd
The Richmond Moving Image Co-Op presents four classic documentaries on the subject of “Man, Nature, Technology” Nov. 5 starting at 4 p.m. at Plant Zero. In addition to “The Plow That Broke the Plains,” “The Power and the Land” and “Burden of Dreams,” The Richmond Indigenous Gourd Orchestra performs a score to the classic 1922 silent documentary “Nanook of the North.” Men using technology to make music out of nature: That’s the thread that holds it all together.
