Saintseneca are all folked-up. The Columbus, Ohio, band’s symphonious acoustic contemplations probe the great American songbook with indie hands. Using a throat borrowed from Vic Chesnutt, singer Zac Little’s declarative nasal is a central element in the group’s music. He sounds like he’s trying to make sense of a confusing premonition. The band follows his lead, shaping its shadowy tales with a rustic melodic efficiency that makes its new Anti Records single, “Uppercutter,” a satisfying push-pull of yesterday’s achievements with the promise of tomorrow. Saintseneca plays Saturday, Jan. 11, at Strange Matter with Lvl Up, Spandrel and Mammoth Indigo. Doors open at 9 p.m. Admission is $10. strangematterrva.com.
