Spending his early career writing and producing hits for the likes of Christina Aguilera and Usher, R&B artist Robin Thicke has developed his own musical identity mixing the neo-soul falsetto of Justin Timberlake and Prince's not-so-subtle sexualized lyrics. While his spelling of song titles has some serious issues (“Make U Love Me,” “Elevatas,” “2 Luv Birds”), the son of “Growing Pains” dad Alan Thicke can do no wrong for those enamored with his slickly produced tunes. With the release of his latest album, “Sex Therapy: The Sessions,” mixing influences of Marvin Gaye and Al Green with a new hip-hop sampling and including guest spots by Snoop Dogg and Jay-Z, Thicke is scheduled to headline Fridays at Sunset on July 16 at 6 p.m. $35-$65. 800-745-3000. — Mike Hilleary
