Springtime means dusting off the furniture, opening up the restaurant doors to special events and dinners and the birth of new menus.

Chef Maxwell's downtown is hosting an art celebration of Shockoe Bottom Arts Center artists Monday, April 10. During this festival of art and food, the restaurant will provide hors d'oeuvres and drinks and local painters and sculptors will provide the striking views, 5-7 p.m. Chef Maxwell's is located at 5th and Franklin streets. 649-8599.

The Outback Steakhouse and Richmond's most eligible bachelors come together during the second annual Big Brothers Big Sisters Bachelor Auction benefit Saturday, April 8 at the Virginia Aviation Museum.

Heavy hors d'oeuvres and drinks will be served during the pre-auction cocktail party, 7-8 p.m. Bidding starts at 8 p.m. with an after- event following at 11 p.m. Tickets are $25. The bachelors also will sell $5 raffle tickets that could turn into prizes donated by local retailers. For more information and reservations, call Elonda Stokes at 282-0856. You could be one of the first to sample the scrumptious new spring menu at the Fox Head Inn during "An Introduction to Chef Robert's Spring Menu 2000." Chef Robert Ramsey is firing up his kitchen for this year's event, which takes place on two days, April 12 and 13, due to demand.
