We Need Leaders Like Carol Wolf

Thank you for highlighting one of Richmond's most courageous elected officials ("Lone Wolf," Cover Story, May 30). For the past five years, Carol Wolf has tirelessly served the people of Richmond. She has fought for all children, not just the children of the 3rd District. She has treated all children, parents and teachers of RPS as if they were her family. Isn't that what we should expect from all our elected officials?

Because I hold her in high esteem and respect, I must clarify and correct some comments in the article that were unfortunately attributed to me. Carol not only has fought hard for all our students and families, she has done so without support from her colleagues. More than any elected official I have ever talked to, Carol Wolf is focused on making sure our system delivers a quality education for all our students; status quo is not in her vocabulary. I thank the citizens of the 3rd District who have elected her three times.

I wish that Chris Dovi had taken the time to seek out any of the hundreds of families and teachers Carol has helped. I feel confident that they would have nothing but praise for this school-board member. But for those of us who get mostly lip service and silence from our representatives, it is nice to know that there is at least one board member willing to ask the questions we bring to her and to, yes, even respond back to us.

Richmond needs more leaders like Carol Wolf. Leaders who are not afraid or intimidated by other elected/appointed officials. Leaders who don't just nod their heads in agreement all the time, but ask the tough questions and expect straight answers.
