United States Census records provide a framework for initial genealogical research as well as offering significant clues to comprehending a bigger picture of a person’s life—his or her family relations, community migrations, and livelihoods. Led by Library reference archivist Kevin Shupe and John Deal, editor of the Dictionary of Virginia Biography, this workshop will illuminate the particulars of the 1950 census and suggest potential search strategies, tips for finding missing ancestors, and ways to mine the census for more information. Contact Ashley Ramey Craig at ashley.ramey@lva.virginia.gov or 804.692.3991 for more information. $15 ($10 for Library of Virginia members). Registration Required.
