VCU Campus Will Shut Down For 2015 Bike Race

Virginia Commonwealth University students have a year to plan for a week-long vacation in the middle of September.

Classes at VCU's Monroe Park campus won't be held next year from Sept. 21-25, with the city serving as host of the 2015 UCI World Road Cycling Championship.

The race route is expected to encircle the campus, an email from the university notified students last week, with estimates of as many as 50,000 people lining the streets per day.

"Please be assured that academic integrity will not be compromised as adjustments to the calendar have been made to ensure sufficient teaching hours are maintained," the email says.

Medical campus students are being asked to check for specific instructions as the event approaches. Employees will be offered online help to navigate around the events.
