Tree Support Needed

'Twas encouraging to read Chris Dovi's article about Richmond's tree population, the Department of Community Development Director Rachel Flynn and her land-use administrative planner Leigh Kelley (“Counting on Trees: City's Urban Forest Crucial Part of Plans,” Street Talk, Dec. 9). More power to them and their plans to fill the almost 500 empty tree-wells around town. I hope they will consider trees that add color to our fall display as well as shade-givers. And I hope too that people who live near those replacements will water them voluntarily during summer dry periods. Our trees are invaluable as well as beautiful hallmarks of our community.
