Re: “Battle of the Balls

@Tim I fail to see how I vilified you or any of my neighbors in any way. The majority of input I have gotten from people in the surrounding neighborhood about NYE has been positive. And trying to continue the tradition had absolutely nothing to do with the sale of beer.....I certainly never have received money from alcohol sales or anything else for NYE. In fact, when approached by the organizers of the Brown's Island event, part of my reserve for being involved with it had to do with my feeling that it was a shame no longer having an ball rise that people could simply walk to from their homes. You also seem to forget the fact that I am also a Carytown resident.

And I did not say that that our city government was full of bullshit....I said that the way they handled this was bullshit and that is accurate. There was no process....in fact, there was a departure from the process that had been present before. There was just a series of unilateral moves and threats from various departments who then almost immediately turned around and tried to claim they had no involvement. It's MY city government too....my tax dollars just as well as yours. I understand you are not a supporter of the idea....that's fine.....but your opinion is not mirrored by everyone in the community and clearly, there has always been a huge amount of support.

And the Byrd has nothing to do with the NYE ball other than having agreed to be the location of the ball for the majority of the years. The Byrd has consistently provided opportunities and support for things that our neighbors and extended community have showed they want to support, so your inference that the Byrd is not "neighborly" is most unfair....and hardly neighborly at all.

Re: “Battle of the Balls

@dontletherfoolyou the permit was applied for in the same time frame that it was for at least 2 of the 5 years since there has been no actual street party.
Ditto that to @R Moffet our permit situation was basically no different this year...what was different was the internal city reaction to it. After 8 years I think it's safe to say I have a bit more information to base the comparison on....the situation happened because it was what they decided to do, not because of anything we did or didn't do...everything else is just typical city PR bullshit. And we had the support and/or acceptance of many of the local merchants....the CMA has known we were going to do this since October.
@Tim your comment is both nasty and uninformed. I certainly hope you don't think that I have or have spent 2 million plus dollars on NYE? Because that is what the Byrd Theatre Foundation still needs to complete renovation. I spend most of every single day of my life keeping the Byrd open and running and trying to help fundraising efforts. By comparison, I spend maybe a total of a five full days each year on NYE and may have spent a total of $15,000 out of my own pocket over the 8 years. Nobody wants to see the Byrd renovation completed more than I do....but nothing I have done with NYE has stood in the way of that goal.

Re: “Speed Dreaming

I must second Foster's accolade....it really is amazing how much arrogance AND ignorance you were able to pack into one review. Keep honing those skills, perhaps you can one day write racist tweets for white supremacist groups. I am curious though, if you spent any time at all actually watching the production...or were you too busy imagining how erudite you were going to sound? Never mind, there are blank bathroom walls awaiting your future work.
