Ah, gas. So delicious, so expensive. Who can travel these days? Through the power of film, beer and woks, you can now witness the world growing smaller!

Start your tour in polka country, at the Capital Ale House Oktoberfest, where beer, sausage and leather shorts make sense together, Sept. 22-23 at 5 p.m. 780-2537.

Move on to VCU's Arabic Film Festival for scenic vistas of life in Iraq, Darfur, Syria and other places, starting at 6 p.m. at Grace Street Theater, Sept. 22-23. 828-0808.

Going through bratwurst withdrawal? Back to Oktoberfest! This time it's the St. Benedict Oktoberfest in the Museum District, Sept. 23, 11 a.m.-8 p.m. 254-8810.

Back in America, the Chickahominy Indian Tribe's Pow-Wow on the Tribal Grounds might be a nice break from all the polka, Sept. 23-24 at 10 a.m. 829-2027.

Peckish? Eat history at the Armenian Food Festival at St. James Armenian Church, Sept. 21-24, starting at 11 a.m. 357-3413.

Round out your trip with a jaunt through the China-American Festival of Film and Culture at UR and the Byrd Theatre, Sept. 25-Oct. 1. Call 245-0236 or visit www.therosegroup.org. Happy motoring! S
