With his new group of paintings, Harriss aims to take “machine-aided abstraction to an extreme level,” according to his artist statement. Known by some for his work as a guitarist in bands such as Kepone and Burma Jam, Harriss’ paintings refer to art history but use modern technology to take it in distorted directions, motivated by his interest in the Hockney-Falco thesis, which traced realism through optical aids such as cameras. There is an opening reception on Friday, Oct. 19, from 7 to 9 p.m. ericschindlergallery.com.
