"Pretty Fire"

With this year’s increased focus on women’s rights, the Equal Rights Amendment, and the Me Too movement — what better time to support and explore women’s theater work? With direction by Carol Piersol, Debra Clinton, Shanea N. Taylor and Melissa Rayford, this festival champions and celebrates the work of female artists over four weeks with four companies and four challenging shows. They include: “Pretty Fire” by Charlayne Woodard produced by 5th Wall Theatre, “Golda’s Balcony” by William Gibson produced by the Weinstein Jewish Community Center, “Message From a Slave” by Margarette Joyner produced by the Heritage Ensemble Theatre Company, and “Bad Dates” by Theresa Rebeck produced by TheatreLab. Also running in conjunction with the festival is Cadence and Virginia Repertory Theatre’s production of Eva DeVirgilis’ one-woman show, “In My Chair.” For information on dates and times, check the Facebook page.
