Before modern chemists began to discover and classify more than 90 naturally occurring elements on Earth, ancient philosophers posited just four to explain everyday occurrences and patterns found in nature: water, air, fire and earth. Looking to tap into the quintessential fifth element of what was believed to be ether, heaven or simply some resolute of spirit, the Latin Ballet of Virginia presents "Verde." Interweaving elaborate costumes, scenery and dance celebrating humanity's respect for Mother Earth, the production is meant to bring life to the residing flora and fauna. Performances are scheduled for Saturday, June 11, at Dogwood Dell in Byrd Park at 8 p.m., and Saturday, June 25, in Maymont Park at 3 p.m. Both are free. 379-2555.
