Awards programs are as thick as fleas on a collie's coat this time of year. This week has its share, so maybe you'll want to reach for the Frontline — the kind you get from your vet, not what you get from PBS (although the latter has its appeal).

The 29th presentation of the prestigious American Film Institute's Lifetime Achievement Award goes to the woman who gave us "Yentl," Barbra Streisand. She's the first female director to get the award, but she's being honored for what she's done in front of as well as behind the camera.

On hand to pay tribute (Thursday, May 31, 8-10 p.m. on Fox) will be Lauren Bacall, Jeff Bridges, Jason Gould, Sidney Poitier, Dustin Hoffman and Elizabeth Taylor. The last three have already won AFI's career-capper. Barbara Stanwyck and Bette Davis are also past winners.

The 2001 ALMA Awards honoring the contributions of Latinos to the arts will proclaim Jennifer Lopez as Entertainer of the Year. Bill Melendez, who was the lone animator for every "Peanuts" ad and TV special, will get the Ricardo Montalban Lifetime Achievement Award. Carlos Santana and Andy Garcia will also be honored.

Entertainment will feature "Ran Kan Kan" by salsa sensation Olga Tanon, with help from legendary Cuban trumpet player Arturo Sandoval, and Latin pop stars MDO performing "Te Quise Olvidar."

The Alma Awards air Friday, June 1, from 8 to 10 p.m. on ABC.

Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick, riding high on the gratifying success of their current hit Broadway musical, "The Producers," will host the 55th Annual Tony Awards (Sunday, June 3, 9-11 p.m., CBS). Edie Falco and Sigorney Weaver will be presenters, as will Sarah Jessica Parker, Doris Roberts and the ever-fabulous Dame Edna Everage (Barry Humphries).

"The Producers" broke records with 15 nominations this year. Other shows up for awards include "The Full Monty," "32nd Street," "King Hedley II," "Jane Eyre," "The Rocky Horror Show" and "The Tale of the Allergist's
