The Duchess and the Toad

Duchess of York, on the heels of its toe-tapping record, "Era in Static," headlines a local music showcase at Toad's Place. The band sounds like The Strokes playing tribute to imagined Led Zeppelin songs, preferring to bounce between airy psychedelic moments and sections of pure headbanger rock. Sharing the bill is the ironic indie pop of Prabir and the Substitutes. With the vocal grittiness of Dr. Dog, the group has proved itself one of Richmond's most promising young bands. Palominos will warm up the crowd with its rock-based alt-country Friday, Feb. 29, at 8 p.m. $4-$8. 648-TOAD or visit www.toadsplacerva.com.
