Self-described as weapons of grass construction, the DePue Brothers Band lives up to its billing. The Philadelphia-based ensemble is made up of world-class talents who play bluegrass as if they invented it. That’s saying something. The American music form has been played for almost a century now, yet these guys make it sound fresh and new by infusing the idiom with melodic aspects from every genre under the sun. Awarded the Musical Family of America Award in 1989 by President George H.W. Bush, the DePue Brothers Band performs its distinctive take on holiday classics for its Magical Grassical Christmas concert Wednesday, Dec. 17, at the Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen. Doors open at 7 p.m. Admission is $35. artsglenallen.com.
