The Church Hill Prom for Grown Folks

Saturday, April 11

As someone who didn’t attend his high-school graduation, I never entertained the thought of my senior prom. But one dance that even my former, justifiably hateful self would gladly attend is the Church Hill Prom for Grown Folks, taking place Saturday, April 11, at the Robinson Theater Community Arts Center. Unlike the prom I skipped, this dance is a true community celebration of a place — Church Hill — worth celebrating. Many of the neighborhood’s finest culinary establishments will be on hand, including Dutch & Co., Metzger Bar and Butchery, Proper Pie Co. and WPA Bakery. They’re raising money for Richmond Cycling Corps, a local organization that uses bikes as a means to make life better for the city’s youth. Add to that stellar lineup of food sensations the funk, soul and R&B vinyl selections of the Scorpio Brothers and you have a recipe for a good time. The dance runs 7 p.m.-midnight. Tickets are $35. Call 564-1360 or visit churchhillprom.com. CORRECTION: This piece originally stated that the prom ended at 10:30 p.m. In fact, it doesn't end until midnight.
