That Zydeco Is a Rascal

If the enthusiastic crowd at the recent performance by Rosie Ledet and The Zydeco Playboys at the National Folk Festival is any indication, there's a market for Creole roots music in Richmond. Ledet and Buckwheat Zydeco ("Waitin' for My Ya Ya") are among the few zydeco artists who have managed to bring their music to the masses. Buckwheat has been recording zydeco music since the late '70s and was the first of the genre to be signed to a major label. Sure, his popularity has ebbed and flowed throughout the years, but showmanship and zeal have never waned, making his live shows a bankable good time. The 50-year-old accordionist performs at the Capital Ale House Saturday, Jan. 26, at 9 p.m. $20. 780-ALES.
