Re: “Richmond Resistance Protest at Riverrock

I'm not sure which message/banner delivered by this action had any criticism of nuclear energy off the bat. Nuclear fission is a "safer", not "safe" alternative to coal and oil. It still has a huge impact on those who reside near uranium mines and waste containment sites, and though statistically a meltdown or other catastrophe may be rare, the possible outcomes are epic.
Unfortunately there is little interest in or awareness of developing the VERY safe and versatile nuclear fusion process, which can be fueled by common and non-volatile elements and compounds such as carbon or water.
There is no defense for any energy company in saying that their hands are so tied that to retool the means of energy production would be detrimental to the public or the profit/vitality of a private corporation. Especially one that is a near-monopoly. They alone set the standard, and the reality is that capital gain, not state supervision or corporate conscience, is the guiding hand. Regulations only serve to keep in check the practices of such an industry because it is otherwise devoid of ethics.
To suppose it is an act of philanthropy for Dominion to simply provide power to the public, or to gradually scale back emissions over decades, is a great logical fallacy. As is seeing Riverrock or similar events as culturally investment, as opposed to simple marketing.
