Symbiotic Relationships

Local choreographers welcome visiting artist Maria Bauman in “Symbiosis,” a presentation by Richmond’s Ground Zero Dance Company. The show features two of Bauman’s works: “Concerning Proximity,” a duet exploring a romance’s end through a combination of modern dance and everyday gestures; and “AIRAM,” a performance full of childish acrobatics reminiscent of the good old days, when she signed her name capitalized and backward. “Symbiosis” also includes the full-length premiere of “Poor Edward,” a collaboration between Ground Zero’s Rob Petres and Kat Legault (pictured), capturing intensity and mania in pas de deux form (French for “awesome duet”). And audiences will see work from other Ground Zero choreographers in “Epic Memory,” a duet rooted in improvisation, along with two pieces by co-founder Pam England. Performances are Sept. 27-29 at Grace Street Theater. Tickets are $10-$15. Call 828-2020 or visit www.groundzerodance.org.
