Style Weekly’s Top 40 Under 40

When Style Weekly published its first issue in October 1982, little Brian Cannon was a mere 6 months old. We imagine he was like many babies: attracted by brightly colored objects, enjoying milk and planning how he would change the world.

This year Style turned 25 along with Brian Cannon, the youngest member of our Top 40 winners. And he has, indeed, made his mark on this planet, starting a political action committee that has become Virginia21 — a way for some 46,000 young people across the state to make their own impact (see page 18 for more).

Like the other remarkable young men and women in our annual list, he’s not only doing well, he’s doing what he loves, and he’s doing it for others. We can only hope there are more inspiring leaders in cribs across the city, forming big plans and learning how to crawl. — Jason Roop
