Style Art Director Honored Best of News Design 

Jeff Bland, Style Weekly's longtime art director, has received four Awards of Excellence in the 31st Edition of the Best of News Design Competition.

Awards included his page designer portfolio, in the 49,000 and under circulation category, featuring the S-shaped instrument case cover illustrating last year's Music Issue (pictured), as well as the Fiction Contest Issue, among others. Also recognized was his work on a cover story about mental health, “Stuck in the System,” and for a cover story about the Richmond economy, “Identity Crisis.”

Bland also received an award for cover design in the magazines category for “The Great Fall,” a cover on Style's monthly publication for women, Belle.

The juried competition is sponsored by the Society for News Design and the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University.
