Founded by vocalist and bassist Al Cisneros and featuring guitarist Matt Pike later of High on Fire, this California-forged ’90s trio is a true heavyweight in the metal world. It may be too easy to characterize their Sabbath-styled riffs as stoner metal, but any group that releases an epic 63-minute song called “Dopesmoker” pretty much has it coming, not to mention its classic song “Dragonaut” that was used in Harmony Korrine’s cult film “Gummo.” A recent comeback album, “The Sciences,” proves the band hasn’t lost a thundering step.
