No Minimum
Richmond's affection for the hole-in-the-wall is admirable, especially in this age of megachain restaurants. Witness the popularity of Ipanema CafA©, Chiocca's, Table 9 and other small spots with dedicated regulars. Bistro 104, in its third-this-century incarnation in Shockoe Bottom, hopes to claim that kind of devotion, and not just for booze but for food too.
Douglas Fowler is convinced there's a market for the dinner service he and his nephew Justin Fowler offer, along with their lunch, takeout and catering service. They have pastas, rib eyes, salmon, crab cakes and other under-$20 entrA©es on the menu, and now that their ABC license is in hand, a surprisingly vast liquor selection of some 90 spirits in the 15-seat room.
"I've been designing drink menus for the last 12 years," Doug Fowler says, "and this is a well-balanced selection with great beers in bottles and cans" that's capturing the attention of many Shockoe Bottom workers who come in after their late shifts. Bistro 104 is open Monday through Saturday for lunch, dinner and drinks. 104 N. 18th St. 343-0051.
