Strike Anywhere and RPG at Alley Katz
Not the same night, mind you, but two of Richmond's musical darlings are playing this week. The peppy post-punk of Strike Anywhere, on tour with With Honor, A Global Threat and Government Warning, comes to Alley Katz March 3 at 6 p.m. $8. RPG's heavy sludge follows up the next day, March 4, at 10 p.m. with The Brought Low, Shame Club, and a Throttlerod CD release. $7. 643-2816.
Trio da Paz at the Singleton Center
Brazilian jazz is seeping into other forms of music, stirring Latin influence into funk, hip-hop and, obviously, regular jazz. Trio da Paz is one of Brazil's most popular jazz groups; formed in the mid-'80s, they subsequently began spreading the music around. VCU brings the trio to the Singleton Center March 6 at 8 p.m. $5. 828-6776.
Col. Bruce Hampton and The CodeTalkers at Cary Street Café
"The Godfather of Southern Alternative Music" returns to Richmond with his comrades in musical psychedelia for two shows, March 5 and 6, at 9 p.m. Even after 40 years of touring, Hampton's shows still have the high-energy feel of a funky sideshow, and Cary Street is no stranger to the blues-friendly jams The CodeTalkers have been working since 1999. $15-$20. 353-7445.
