Save the Arcadian, Chelsea Temple and the Welcome Hips at the Camel

Sunday, Sept. 28

Save the Arcadian plays a bubbly brand of post-emo Americana. With violin, mandolin and piano coloring its bass, drum and guitar-rooted compositions, the Fredericksburg-based six-piece wears its sunny disposition with a boyish charm that avoids Eddie Haskell smarminess. The buoyant bounces of “Bayhouse” and “Driving to the Bottom” are spry and uplifting in ways that Belle and Sebastian, Death Cab for Cutie, and the Fleet Foxes are when they aren’t pushing the idea that life sucks. Even during the group’s contemplative moments (the slow romantic dirge of “At the End’), it shades its symphonious melancholy with indubitable resolve. Save the Arcadian brings its youthful piquancy to the Camel on Sunday, Sept. 28, with Richmond’s Chelsea Temple and the Welcome Hips. Doors open at 7 p.m. Admission is $5. thecamel.org.
