Re: “Beyond Terror

I posted earlier this week, but it got lost!
I agree with this article, and it did have a typo that has been corrected. I think he did a pretty good job of getting his FACTS down except for mislabeling my identity.

I am Sam Ward, Chief Petty Officer, USNavy retired. A concerned (proud Southerner!) American citizen and Disabled Veteran, 24 years of Service, defending OUR country and its values and ideals. Indeed we do not always measure up to those ideals, but must always strive to.

I was concerned when viewing an older news video clip of the scared old white woman thumping the Quran and stating "I want to keep America American!" & BS about Sharia law. I don't live in LAKSIDE but she made it about MY AMERICA! So they had no right to be pissed off about us showing up...they complained we "didn't live in their nieghborhood so our perspective didn't matter"

I spoke out because, I believe in Our country and its rights.
Most importantly & AMERICAN is Freedom of Religion.
I was further concerned after attending the meeting of the Board of Superizors, as the opponents had obviously been coached to try to make it about traffic issues and not religion.
Thank God they were very bad at doing that, as their true feelings keep bubbling up in almost everyone speech.
It was most definately about RELIGION and FEAR and HATE...and mis-information!

The same old woman was there with her Quran & as you stated she was cut-off & did politely respond...but what was not reported was after her rant about traffic she went back to make ignorant statements about Muslims.

Additionally, Supervisor Dick Glover was very vindictive & pointed out in his 20+ years of serving Henrico, he had never felt so Preached to, talked down to, & felt like he had been taken out behind the wood shed & verbally whipped.

Guess he doesn't agree with citizens exercising their right to speak and address their political leaders.

The fact that they were in violation of a federal regulation from early part of this decade pretty much forced them to do the right thing.

The other sad part of the story that never was reported...was their lame protest.

They have an urban nieghborhood that has turned commercial over the years...22 businesses, some 24 hours a day...some trucking.

That now they wouldn't be able to sit out on their porches/decks and enjoy thier (urban/commercial) nieghborhood with a Mosaque there.. on a vacant lot that had been so for over 24-27 years.

They dwelled on Commercial Tractor-Trailers...maybe they think having a mosque would increase that traffic as everyone knows~~~muslims drive to Mosque in Tractor trailers...

While one spoke of speeders another spoke of congestion & backed up traffic. I know its hard to speed when traffic is all backed up.

The best was the scared old woman, who said 100 now but how long before there is 4000...& how many pews does it take for that many Muslims?

Or the fear of minerets or loud speakers announcing the call to worship several times a day.

Or Just think how bad the traffic will be on Sunday mornings?

Ok as I pointed out, we share our building and facilities (Unitarian Universalist Community Church) with a Muslim group & it is working out just fine for all concerned. (not one Tractor-Trailer yet!)

Its fine because they hold their services on friday afternoon and @ sunrise on Saturday...
The 1st thing they do @ noon on friday, in the sanctuary, is stack all the chairs (we don't have pews) because they kneel to pray.

I know Dick Glover is my representative & I know he has done a lot for the county. I know he voted against the Mosque previously. I believe he coached the opponents on how to approach the issue and keep it traffic focused
It is my personal opinion that it is probably time for us to have a new supervisor.

Thanks, it was nice to see someone do a differnt spin on this story. Differnt than the regular HATE, FEAR, ANTI-MUSLIM crap we hear from the 24 hour cable news spin!!!
