Re: “Two-Fisted Poet

I lived next door to Lester and Lilly in 1986 on 18th St. I considered Lester a friend. I would never trust him but he was fun to be around, told great stories and was very, very unpredictable. One night around 10 PM mid-week I was having a beer at the Franklin Gallery, it was between 17th and 18th on Franklin St. At that time nobody was on the streets in the "Bottom" after 6 PM, it was dead quite. A giant rat ran across the floor of the gallery. The rat was the size of a large cat. It jumped behind a missing piece of paneling and just sat there. I ran over and rang Lester's doorbell, it was just before cell phone's. I knew he had a gun and this would be his thing as long as he did not shoot me. A few minutes later Lester was walking down 18th St. in bedroom slippers, a red plaid bathrobe carrying a leather brief case. Lester walked into the gallery put the brief case on the table, removed a small handgun loaded it and walked to the whole in the wall and took 6 shots. Without saying a word he put the gun back in the bag and left. That was Lester.
