For 34 years, the official holiday kick-off formerly known as the Grand Illumination occurred at the James Center, but it has moved this year. The main event starts at 5:45 p.m. and runs until 7 p.m. but there will be a soft start featuring Richmond Public School students performing around 5 p.m. The No BS Brass band will perform later, and Mayor Levar Stoney, Melissa Chase and Jack Frost will be there. The whole city should light up (fingers crossed) around 6 p.m. Free and open to the public. venturerichmond.com.
