Re: “Exile on Grace Street

Thanks for the walk down memory lane. My restaurant, The Pizza Connection was on Laurel, across from Lums. I spent many happy years in the fan in the 70's; it was an amazing community during that time frame. Multiple unique businesses, interesting and creative individuals along with the culture of the era came together with a synergy that was palpable.

My dad showed up one afternoon as a surprise (since he knew the restaurant was closed from 2PM - 5PM in the summer months), and took me to see Fantasia at the Biograph Theatre. Sea Dream Leather opened their first store on the 2nd floor of a building near by on Grace and I bought my first pair of Frye Boots from them as a treat to myself on my first month's profit.

This was when the revitalization of those marvelous residences began in earnest; it was a joy to walk down different streets and talk to the homeowners who were bringing these houses back to life. Month by month you could see the progress. Those of us who were part of that time in RVA were fortunate indeed.
