Re: “Recap: Lobby Day and MLK Day of Service

Virginia Senators voted to kill these bills along party lines. Democrats voting to table them, Republican voting to advance them.

Tell me again about who wants sensible gun control?

SB 88 - increased penalty for discharging a firearm in a school or public building

SB 83 increased penalty for brandishing a firearm at a law-enforcement officer

SB 89 increased penalty for violation of protective order while armed with firearm or other deadly weapon;

SB 85 increased penalty for possessing a stolen firearm.

Re: “People Power

y32cats, Truman's Executive Order called for equal treatment of the races in the military but did not include desegregation. That occurred under Eisenhower's administration. And, yes, he was a republican.

Re: “OPINION: A Better Riverfront Project

The bottom line is, the more you develop Brown's Island, the less green space there is.

Leave it alone.

Re: “OPINION: A Letter to Rural Virginia

It is interesting that Mark Herring, despite coming out against these sanctuary cities and counties, took the same position himself as Attorney General.

In 2014, after refusing to defend a Virginia law because he disagreed with it, he said, "If I think the laws that are adopted are Constitutional, I will defend them."

I suppose his values are situational.

Re: “OPINION: A Letter to Rural Virginia

Mr. Timberland should make a trip to the Shenandoah. Unlike the opprobrium he puts forth in his article, the Valley has excellent schools, responsive and representative local governments, low taxes, low crime, high employment, little pollution, and excellent roads.

All too often those with the least understanding of their surroundings tend to hide away from the world and cast disparities against those that believe differently than they do such as Ms. Clinton's "deplorables" and Ms. Karlans incredibly misinformed and bigoted comment "conservatives, especially very conservative people, tend to spread out more, perhaps because they dont even want to be around themselves." Ad hominem is an argument most commonly used when one can not come up with a reasoned argument.

The communities that have gone this route are simply advocating their rights of expression. There is nothing illegal or devious about their actions. Every law enforcement officer and elected official in Virginia has already sworn an oath to uphold both the US and Virginia Constitutions. This is merely reminding those who rule in ivory towers who they are ruling.

Re: “The Adventures of Trump Baby

I thought that there were supposed to be riots after one party lost an election to another.
