Re: “Conflicted Confederacy: Lincoln, Davis and Lee’s Revenge

I wonder - why do Southerners and Confederate sympathizers constantly feel the need to celebrate and sugar-coat the side of the war that lost? I mean, do the Spanish fondly look back at the Spanish-American War and go "ah, yes, the war we lost Puerto Rico, GOOD TIMES!!" Does Egypt look back at the Six Day War and throw a party? "WE DON'T NEED NO CANAL!!!" I fail to see the logic in celebrating a war that was caused by some twisted rich Southerners' desire to keep other humans as possessions. And, the kicker - they convinced the poorer masses that it was for some grand cause, like states' rights. Please. Amazing that in 2012 that lie continues to spread. Read up on Henry Clay - slavery was *the* decisive and divisive issue in the country for 70 years before the Civil War. I'm no fan of the Occupy movement, but the CSA is a classic case of the wealthy, educated 1% oppressing the masses. Instead of celebrating Lee, you should mock him for his arrogance, for it was only McClellan's incompetence that allowed the Confederacy to survive as long as it did.
