Re: “Wonderwalls

The Mural Arts Program up in Philadelphia has helped transform what used to be a city known primarily for its graffiti. Now individuals charged with vandalism are taught the skills of mural arts, and are slowly turning the city into a place of beauty and culture. Likewise, Richmond could certainly benefit from beautiful works of art in unexpected places.

My only issue with many of the murals painted during the G40 Art Summit was that many of the images are disturbingly dark - especially to young children. I've heard of toddlers screaming and crying at some of the grotesque images painted on huge walls. I think that the artists should be more mindful of ALL the eyes that are going to be appreciating the artwork, hopefully for generations to come. These murals should bring joy and hope, not creep people out. Let's celebrate the beauty of the city with images that reflect how much we love it!
