Re: “Street in Motion

As a longtime Richmond and urban rider (30 years, in Boston, Vancouver, Chicago, and RVA) I've moved from solidly for this project to against it. The original plan made things safer for cyclists. The new one? Meh. It likely increases danger. Increased car speeds, cyclists choked at key points in the roads (intersections), the potential of door zone bike lane markings (mentioned in other articles I've seen) make this a solid disaster of a plan. It's not a start, it is a step back, on a par or worse than the door zone markings on Floyd 25 years ago the city removed because they presented such a danger. Please, please, cycling advocates, unite against this mess-- get it back to its' original form, which actually held promise. Don't put paint and infrastructure down for the sake of infrastructure. Some infrastructure is actively dangerous, and this is trending more and more that way. ANd thanks for writing this article, Style. It's nice to know I'm not alone.
