Playback Theatre

When: Tue., May 28, 7:30 p.m. 2019
Price: $10-$15.
Playback Theatre Virginia is a performance troupe based in Charlottesville, Virginia. Directed by Larry Goldstein, players include Boomie Pedersen, Deborah Arenstein, Alexandra Kedrock, Michelle James, Abena Foreman Trice, Kristen Atkins, Jennifer Peart, Thembelihle Ngema and Catherine Crisler. Playback is a theatre form where someone in the audience shares a moment or story from their life, chooses the actors to play the different roles, and then all those present watch the enactment, as the story "comes to life" with artistic shape and nuance, as well as musical accompaniment. Playback is a beautiful intersection between theatre, storytelling, and improv. In addition to being a form of entertainment, playback has been used in educational, therapeutic and business settings, as well as in the aftermath of tragic events such as Hurricane Katrina, or to foster racial reconciliation and address human rights issues. Come to Playback prepared to laugh, be moved, and to hear and share our common stories and experiences. Proceeds from this Playback performance will benefit the Help Hope Live campaign of Richmonder Rob Drescher. Rob became a paraplegic in 2010 when he was 14 years old due to an ultra-rare disease that has affected less than 200 individuals worldwide. Blue Rubber Bleb Nevus Syndrome is a vascular anomalies condition that eroded Rob's spinal cord as a growing boy. A decade after his spinal cord was injured, Rob now has the chance to stand and walk again with the assistance of a robotic system. Rob will be the first in the Mid-Atlantic region to own an Indego robotic system, and he will be able to share his journey and mentor other physically disabled individuals.
