"Fracked" natural gas wells are notorious for short term production, reqiring the drilling of more and more of them in the same area, with a therefore greater chance of pollution of either surface or groundwater, and the destruction of more land for anything useful, like agriculture. By the time the proposed pipeline is built, the "shale plays" this gas is coming from could be dwindling rapidly. But, if this pipeline is really needed, it could be run almost entirely along established rights of way of interstate highways for not much more cost than presently suggested, instead of crossing national forests, private lands, wilderness areas (I think), and the like.
