Re: “Cuts Both Ways

Wow, a lot of buttons getting pressed here. Sounds like all sides needed to vent.

As for Groupons and the like, I use them. A - yes they are money savers though I can count on a couple of fingers the number of times that our final bill hasn't been at least doubled the coupon value. They almost encourage us to spend a little more since we're getting a break. And our tip is always on the pre-discount amount. B- they allow us to try a new place or revisit one we haven't been to in a while and then, see 'A'. I do not understand complaining about their usage if they are issued. It's like saying "please come try our restaurant and we'll pay you $20 dollars unless you don't want the $20". The only gripe I can understand would of patrons who only spend the coupon amount.

As for the bad press on social media - it's usually fairly obvious when someone has an ax to grind or is just a pretentious prick. I stick more to Twitter and put more weight on the positive feedback, probably since it seems more genuine than the bitchy ones.

My main complaint about the local restaurant scene is there's so many great places to try and to get back to! Can't wait till the kids are off the company payroll so we can try more and revisit others more often. Yes, it's an awesome problem to have and, based on the crowds we usually see at almost any of the restaurants we've been to, it's a problem we share with a lot of people in town.

Don't let the haters get you down, industry folk and please don't lump us all together.
