Out of Town Pick: Floyd Fest

Tucked up in the mountains outside of Floyd is a festival shrouded in mist. Floyd Fest 5: Roots Alive does a good job of being mysterious, given the environs. This is a real getaway kind of event, pitching tents and all — though accommodations are available in Floyd for people who want beds — and strolling here and there (nothing faster than a stroll is allowed, most likely) to see such musical variety as East L.A. rock darlings Los Lobos, Brazilian percussionist Cyro Baptista, former Leftover Salmon songwriter Drew Emmitt, Garaj Mahal, Donna the Buffalo, ukulele-slinger Jake Shimabukuro and others. Opening Thursday, July 27, at 8 p.m.; Railroad Earth performs at 10 p.m. The festival runs through July 30. Tickets are $40-$115. Call (540) 745-3378 or visit www.floydfest.com. S
