Re: “Weekly Food Notes

And Chez Foushee turned 25 this year! With all of the news of restaurant closings always making headlines, it's nice to remember the ones that have stood the test of time. Congratulations to all of the above!

Re: “Exorcising the Devil’s Triangle

Glad to see all of the support for the established name! I love the Devil's Triangle.

Believe me that I'll use the comments here to support the cause. I've made the same comparison with Hell's Kitchen plenty of times. Good to hear that I'm not completely off base.

Re: “Cuts Both Ways

This. -- "If you did your research, Chef Doetzer is NOT the owner of Mint or Juleps, hence his comments are from a Chefs perspective. It is not his call whether or not to offer a coupon. Pay attention. "

Everyone just calm down about the damn Groupons. Some people like them, some people don't -- for lots of different reasons. The idea that purchasing full price meals (or tanning sessions or magazine subscriptions or whatever) from a local business is a much better way of showing support than buying with coupons (or Groupons or whatever the flavor of the day is) is not without merit. Small businesses operate on small margins.

That being said, the deal of the day sites work well for a lot of small businesses.

Keep in mind that this was an article about how the chef thinks, not the business owner. The chef is not the person to make the decision about coupons, and it is just an opinion. If this comment thread is any example of how we react to behind the scenes tours then maybe we just aren't grown up enough to hear how things really are in the kitchen?
